What To Expect During Breast Augmentation Surgery Recovery

If you are considering breast augmentation, it is important to know what to expect while you are recovering from breast augmentation surgery. This awareness allows you to prevent any unexpected surprises or stress later.

Although each patient is different, here’s an expected recovery timeline post following breast augmentation surgery performed by an experienced surgeon, such as Dr. Rozbeh Torabi of Elite Plastic Surgery in Phoenix.

DAY 1 AFTER SURGERY

The breast implants may look high and compressed and the breasts seem firm and tight. Nipples may appear low or pointing down. Swelling on the breast boneand bruising is possible. Patient needs to wear non-support sports bra at all times, except showering.

WEEK 1 AFTER SURGERY

Implants are still high and compressed and breasts tight. Nipples still appear low but breast bone swelling subsides. Bruising subsides. Patients can’t yet sleep on their sides. Itching or burning may be felt. You can start walking as early as a couple of days after surgery.

WEEK 3 AFTER SURGERY

Implants will start to become less compressed. Breasts feel firm but not tight. Nipples may still be low but will start to elevate upwards. Side rounding is not prominent yet. Bruising goes away. Breasts may look asymmetrical but is normal.

Patients will be evaluated for the right bra management. Light physical activity is allowed.

WEEK 6 AFTER SURGERY

Breasts startsoftening and start taking on a more attractive appearance. Nipples are rising slowly. Side breast rounding begins. Pains will occur less frequently. Incisions are completely closed.

WEEK 8-9 AFTER SURGERY

Breasts start looking much better. They are softer than before. Nipples are in good position. Side rounding will go on becoming more pronounced. Breasts may still look somewhat asymmetrical. Bra management is evaluated at each appointment.

Rigorous physical activity may be allowed to include running and upper body workout.

WEEK 12 AFTER SURGERY

Breast will get a nice attractive shape. Healing is almost complete. Breasts become softer and nipples are almost centered. Rounding continues to improve. A fitted sports bra with support is required.

6 MONTHS AFTER SURGERY

Breasts are in optimal position. They are soft to the touch. Underwired bra is recommended for most patients. Fitted support sports bra will be required for high-impact sports.
